The Smile Lift

The smile lift or the smile makeover as it is sometimes known is a new procedure that has revolutionized cosmetic dentistry. It has even been called “the scalpel free face lift” as it is a non invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery.

The procedure is simple. By altering the tooth width and size with porcelain veneers, at Sparkle Dental Boutique, Hanwell, we can create the effect of lifting the lips and widening the smile.  The result is a more sensual mouth with diminished wrinkles, laughter lines and smokers lines!

As well as a sexy new smile, the results of a smile lift or makeover are life changing. Most patients report a huge surge in confidence and self esteem and many go on to do things that they were previously unable to like having photographs taken, finding a new job, starting a new relationship, getting married, public speaking but most importantly smiling!

The British Dental Health Foundation has revealed that it will be focusing on the link between oral health and overall body health in this year’s National Smile Month – an event that will run simultaneously in the UK and the USA.

Dr Sunita Verma from Sparkle Dental Boutique, Ealing says, “We have always supported National Smile Month and this months theme ‘Brush for Health’, which runs from 18 May to 17 June emphasises the importance of good oral healthcare to our general well being’. There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that people with gum disease are more at risk of heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and, in the case of pregnant women, giving birth to underweight babies. Gum disease is caused by poor oral healthcare and is, therefore, totally preventable. Around 19 out of 20 people suffer with gum disease at some point in their lives, but with a good oral healthcare routine they can easily prevent it from developing into something more serious. For good oral health:

  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
  • Cut down how often you have sugary foods and drinks

  • Visit us at Sparkle regularly

  • You should also clean between the teeth once-a-day using floss or interdental brushes, change your toothbrush every three months and check your mouth regularly for any lumps, non healing ulcers or red/white patches in the mouth - as these can all be early signs of mouth cancer

Sunita paints Lord Ganesh!

Two members of the Sparkle Dental Boutique, Ealing, Sunita Verma, Principal and Kavita Verma, Boutique Manager, both recently started voluntary work for Volunteer Reading Help, a nationally recognised charity at their local school. This involves reading with three children twice a week, to help improve reading skills, build confidence and self esteem.

As a part of Sparkle’s goals to give back to the community, this builds on the voluntary work that they started earlier this year in Jaipur, India. Working with disadvantaged children in a remote village in India to teach English and to paint classrooms was an alternative Christmas well spent.  Sunita says `Our accommodation was a hut made from cow dung and we had a few unexpected guests including bats, rats, mosquitos and field mice! Freezing temperatures, intermittent electricity and cold bucket baths meant that we certainly missed our home comforts….but the children were amazing! Their boundless enthusiasm and eagerness to learn was touching and their smiles warmed our hearts. The voluntary work was great and certainly brings you back down to reality! I can’t wait for my next trip’.

Its official, a survey of UK adults for Denplan found that men were more likely to brush their teeth just once a day, than women.

Overall the survey of 100 adults suggests billions of Britons are not taking proper care of their teeth with only 61 percent bothering to brush twice a day. The findings also indicated that fewer people are brushing their teeth twice a day than 30 years ago. Numerous studies have found brushing twice a day helps maintain good oral health and recommend brushing after meals to remove food particles and reduce plaque. Of the respondents who didn’t brush their teeth twice a day, 32 per cent thought it wasn’t necessary and 19 percent said that they couldn’t be bothered to brush twice a day.

Sparkle Dental Boutique’s, Dental Therapist Hardip, says `It only takes four minutes of brushing a day to help avoid any dental problems that could cause pain, anti-social breath or even tooth loss. Good home care routines and keeping regular dental appointments are still the best defence against dental problems’.
